Dallas and Paulding County are classified as EPA Zone 2, but actual measured test data across the county runs well above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. The underlying geology includes granitic gneiss, hornblende gneiss, biotite gneiss, and sericite schist, all uranium-bearing Piedmont metamorphic formations. A thick saprolite layer derived from these rocks underlies every subdivision in Dallas and moves radon efficiently toward foundations.
Dallas’s rolling terrain produces a genuine mix of all three foundation types within the same neighborhood. Seven Hills, Georgia’s largest master-planned community by housing starts, spreads across 1,830 acres of this terrain with homes on slab, crawlspace, and hillside walkout basements built 2004 to present. Crawlspace and pier-and-beam foundations are the norm for this era. These are the oldest foundations in the county, sitting above Piedmont geology that has been producing radon since the rock formed.
Hunters Glen, built 1995 to 2002, and Senators Ridge, with phases from 1998 to 2023, represent Paulding County’s first suburban growth wave. Traditional two-story homes on crawlspace foundations dominate this era, particularly on the county’s sloped wooded lots.
Seven Hills, with homes built 2004 to present on 1,830 acres, is one of the largest master-planned communities in Northwest Georgia. Rolling terrain means slab, crawlspace, and walkout basement homes exist within the same phase. Most Seven Hills homes have never been tested for radon.
Lost Creek by D.R. Horton, Oakleigh Pointe, and current active-build communities represent the newest Dallas inventory. Slab-on-grade is standard in these communities. Georgia does not mandate radon-resistant construction, and Paulding County’s documented elevated test levels apply to new homes as well.

Radon comes up on most Dallas contracts now. Buyers’ agents request it. Some lenders require it. The due diligence window on most Georgia contracts runs 7–10 days.

There are none. Radon is odorless, colorless, and produces no symptoms you would connect to it. Long-term exposure is cumulative. The only way to know if radon is present at an elevated level is a certified test.
